Marcello BaxI am a professor and researcher with the Department of Information Theory and Management of the School of Information Science at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG), in SE Brazil.

I am spending a sabbatical year (2017/18) working with the Tetherless Word Constellation Lab.

My current research interests include ontologies and semantic web, information integration, and semantic interoperability.

I hold a Doctoral degree in Computer Science from the University of Montpellier II, in France, and a Master in Mathematics and Advanced Studies in Informatics from Université d'Aix Marseille II, also in France.

Prior to joining Information Science School, I was a postdoctoral fellow with the Computer Science Department at UFMG, a leading research group on Computer Science in Latin America.

Between 2013 and 2016 I coordinated an R&D project in Records Management for CEMIG (cemig.eci.ufmg.br), one of the largest power generators and distributors in Brazil being responsible for 12% of the national distribution.

I have experience in the areas of  Information and Computer Science, working mainly with ontologies for knowledge and information management. In the field of semantic web and information systems, I have served as organizer and program committee member for major conferences in Brazil, such as ONTOBRAS (Seminar on Ontology Research in Brazil) and CONTECSI.

I am a member of the Editorial Board of several journals in the area of Information Science.
